A LITTLE ACT OF CARING CREATES A LOT OF RIPPLES

Once upon a time, there was a poor family living in a small town. Both mother and father passed away at a very early age leaving two little kids in the hands of their grand-parents. They were brother and sister. Brother was grown up and his age was 9 years. Sister was younger and her age was 5 years. Grand-pa was retired from his service some earlier because of illness. He was suffering from paralysis. He could not walk himself. His life was completely on wheel-chair. The grand-ma was also at her old age. She was 70 years old. But she was the only caretaker of the family of two kids and the helpless grand-pa. The family was hardly living their life.
story

In one morning the grand-ma was going to a local mall for shopping household stuffs. Two kids also went along the grand-ma to the mall. It was also birthday of the grand-pa on that day, but there was not any plan for celebration.

story

Grand-ma and both the kids reached the mall. Grand-ma was picking up the stuffs for household from food-racks. The boy was also helping grand-ma in carrying the stuffs to the billing counter. But the little girl was looking at the cakes standing near the cake-counter. She gave order of a cake. The staff brought the cakes to counter and billed also for the cake. The grand-ma said “we have not given order for the cake” The shopkeeper said that the little girl ordered the cake. The grand-ma said to the little girl, “why did you order cake, it is not needed.” But the little girl said “No we need it to celebrate birthday of grand-pa.” She was obstinate and repeatedly went on saying “No, we need it, we need the cake”
story

At the last the grand-ma said “okay” and searched money in her wallet. There was not enough money. The boy said “I have also some money” and searched in his wallet. But still money was not sufficient for the cake. Grand-ma asked the shopkeeper “can you take back the cake as we have not enough money to pay its cost” The shopkeeper canceled the bill, unpacked the cake and put it back on the cake-tray. The little girl cried for a while then became silent. The family came out and reached in the compound of the mall. The little girl was also following grand-ma and her elder brother, but silently.

One person was standing nearby the counter and was watching the whole scenario. The man went to the counter and asked “which cake the little girl was asking for?” He took the cake and ran to the family and met them. He put the cake in the hands of the little girl and said “Take the cake; carry it to home.” The little girl became happy. But grand-ma refused to take the cake. She said “we do not take the cake from a stranger. There is no reason to accept the cake.” But the gentleman requested to accept the cake. Finally grand-ma accepted the cake and asked the gentleman to give his cell number. She said that she would return cost of the cake as soon as they have money. The gentleman said “okay” and wrote his cell number in a paper and handed over to grand-ma. Grand-ma kept the chit in her bag and returned home. The little girl became happy.
story

After reaching home, the little girl showed the cake to grand-pa and said “Happy birthday grand-pa, we have brought cake for your birthday.” She ran into the home with the cake. Grand-pa said to grand-ma “why did you buy the cake unnecessarily. We do not need it. We are already running short of money” Grand-ma replied that the little one did not listen a single word. A gentleman paid money for the cake, but I have taken his cell-number. We shall return his money. Look this is his number and gave the chit of paper to grand-pa.

story
Grand-pa looked at the chit of paper. There was not written cell-number. There was written a sentence “A little act of caring creates a lot of ripples” His eyes became full of tears. He recalled a very old incident taken place in his life few years ago. He went deep into his past memory. Grand-pa flashed back to an old memory when he was young. He remembered, once in his life the same kind of incident had taken place. In a shopping mall, a boy was crying for cake for his birthday. His mother had not enough money in her wallet. At that time he had paid for the cake and also had given a chit of paper to the boy where he had written “A little act of caring creates a lot of ripples”. Grand-pa said to grand-ma “He must be the same boy whom once he had paid for cake. A little act of goodness and kindness never dies. It will come across your life in one way or the other. Thanks !!!

Moral: Help needy people. You will also be helped by God in different forms….. may be today…. Tomorrow…. Good act never dies.

A unique incident on "How to handle a failure?"

story

It is an incident of 1979 when India was launching SLV – 3 Satellite. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Azad was the project director and Prof. Satish Dhawan was the chairman of ISRO. Thousands of people in the team had worked restlessly for nearly 10 years on the project. The Mission was to install the satellite into the orbit

story

Finally the day came. Dr Abdul Kalam Azad, Prof Satish Dhawan, other scientists, staffs and others all had arrived at the launch site. All the preparation was complete to launch the satellite. Count-down begun. 5 minutes remaining…. 4 minutes remaining…. 3 minutes remaining…. 2 minutes remaining…. 1 minute remaining…. 50 seconds remaining…. 40 seconds remaining…. 10 seconds remaining. At the last seconds of the last minute, computer put it on hold. Warning message appeared on the screen. ….Do not launch….. As a project director, Dr Kalam had to take a decision. He took advice from other scientists. Everybody was confident of their calculation. Kalam decided to bypass the computer and launched the rocket. Instead of putting the satellite into orbit, it dropped into the Bay of Bengal

The whole Nation was disappointed. Everywhere there were the words of criticism. Prof. Satish Dhawan held a press conference along with team despite the fact of facing criticisms. Prof Satish Dhawan addressed the press conference. He said “Dear friends, we have failed today. I want to support my technologists, my scientists, my staff, so that next year, they succeed.” He took the whole blame on his shoulder. He assured the nation that next year his team would succeed

Rohini RS 1

Next year on July 18, 1980, the same team led by Kalam successfully launched a new satellite, Rohini RS 1 satellite and put it into the orbit. The whole nation was on joy. Everybody was congratulating the team. Now this time Prof. Dhawan asked Dr Kalam to conduct the press conference that day

Dr Kalam wrote in his book “I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. A very unique and the best management lesson ever….
