HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a kind of virus which attacks the immune system of human being. Immune system is a natural defense system of the body that protects human from falling ill. If HIV is left untreated for a considerable long time, the immune system of the patient becomes weaker and weaker. Immune system can no longer be able to fight against life threatening infections and diseases. This stage of the patient is called AIDS. It normally takes 10 to 16 years, a HIV infected patient become the AIDS patient. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a set of symptoms and illness that develops at the final stage of HIV infections, if left untreated

But if the HIV patient takes a proper treatment in time, then the people living with HIV can enjoy a long and healthy life

HIV is considered an illness that is never cured. Though there is still no reliable cure for HIV, an early diagnosis can stop the virus from damaging immune system. The timely treatment can help the patient to live a normal as well as long life without progressing to the late state HIV, i.e. AIDS

Recently scientists in US have set a landmark towards the treatment of HIV. It is the first time in the world that a woman with HIV is successfully treated. She is free from the HIV for 14 months now. The woman received cord blood from donor with the mutation that blocks HIV entry into cell in the human body. The stem cell treatment may have cured the woman, the scientists believe. There is needed more research on this method of treatment, the scientists involved in the study say. This method is risky to be suitable for most people infected with HIV

The US researchers announced that the new approach is potential for curing more people of racially diverse backgrounds

This is the first case of successful treatment of a HIV infected woman in the world. Prior to this, there have been two known cases of HIV treatment, both of them are/were men. One of them lived virus free for 12 years before he died of cancer in 2020. And the next patient also remained virus free. Both of the men received bone marrow transplant treatment from the donor who carried a mutation that prevented the HIV infection
